Larry PollockPresident & CEO,Canadian Western Bank Larry Pollock has been leading the Canadian Western Bank (CWB) growth story since he was recruited as President and CEO in 1990. In guiding the Bank’s success, Larry’s philosophy has always been centered on people - both customers and employees. As an example, in the early 1990’s when Canada’s large banks were promoting the use of electronic services and reducing personal contact, CWB’s strategy was to engage customers and provide the type of “high touch” service Larry knew was necessary to build successful long-term client relationships. The bank still maintains its commitment to superior customer service, which is perhaps best exemplified by the fact that even today CWB does not use voicemail in its branches or corporate office during normal business hours. The bank’s culture is best described by its internal brand -“Think Western”. Larry’s strategy for Canadian Western Bank has been to focus on commercial loans to small to mid-sized businesses in the western provinces. Trust services to independent financial advisors, corporations, income trusts and individuals are provided through the Bank’s wholly owned subsidiaries, Canadian Western Trust Company and Valiant Trust Company. Canadian Direct Insurance Incorporated provides personal automobile and property insurance directly to customers in British Columbia and Alberta. Headquartered in Edmonton, the bank has branches in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Larry earned a diploma in Business Administration at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Arts and Science and completed various courses at York and Ryerson Universities in Toronto and University of Calgary.
