Dear Members:
Happy New Year! Here at FEI Canada, the new year always means lots of activity, so I would like to make note of some of the things keeping us busy.
Nominations for CFO of the YearTM are now open. If you know of a deserving CFO, be sure to get your nomination in by March 2, 2007. Tickets for the April 18th gala are now on sale, so be sure to contact the FEI Canada office early to reserve your spot!
Planning for the FEI Canada Conference in Halifax is almost complete. Registrations are now being accepted and, as a reminder to new members, your first conference is free! If you joined last year and were unable to join us in Niagara Falls, you can still take advantage of this offer this year.
Finally, as you may have seen, there has been a significant change within FEI in the United States. After years of dedicated service, Colleen Cunningham, President and CEO, stepped down in order to spend more time with her family. Michael Cangemi, a long-time FEI member, has been named as the new President and CEO and has begun his duties with FEI. I have enjoyed working with Colleen and I will certainly miss her. I’d like to thank her for her counsel and all that she has done to promote FEI. We at FEI Canada send our best wishes to Colleen as she embarks on this new chapter of her life. We also look forward to working with Michael and continuing our strong partnership with FEI in the United States.
Sincerely,
Isabel Meharry

Robert Normand Named Recipient of Frank S. Capon Distinguished Service Award
FEI Canada is pleased to announce that Robert Normand of the Quebec Chapter has been named as the recipient of the inaugural Frank S. Capon Distinguished Service Award. The award honours Frank Capon, who is credited with bringing FEI to Canada. He was a member for 57 years and was the only member in Canada to have been with the organization longer than any Canadian chapter has been in existence.
Mr. Normand is an exceptionally talented senior financial executive, highly respected not only in Quebec, but throughout Canada and the US. A member of FEI Canada since 1976, he remains an active member and is recognized as a mentor among many of the leaders within the Quebec Chapter. He has served as both Chair (1992-1993) and vice Chair (1991-1992) of the Board of Directors of FEI Canada, a Director of the Board and as a member of the Compensation Committee. He chaired the Conference Committee in 1985 and was a member of the Conference Committee in 1992. Within the Quebec Chapter, he has held the position of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Program Chair. From 1992-1995, Mr. Normand represented Canada on the Board of Directors of FEI in the United States.
Mr. Normand is currently a professional director for a number of publicly traded and private companies. In performing his Directors’ duties, he has served on various audit, investment, pension fund, corporate governance, human resources and environmental committees and has also served as chairman. Previously, he held several positions at Gaz Métropolitain Inc., retiring as Chief Financial Officer in 1997.
Mr. Normand is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Corporate Directors’ Institute. He has been a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1966.
Mr. Normand will be recognized for his contributions to FEI Canada and the financial community at large at this year’s FEI Canada Conference in Halifax.
FEI Canada, its Board of Directors and the Quebec Chapter send their heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Normand. Merci et félicitations!

Their award-winning paper "Beyond - GAAP Corporate Reporting: Quality, Value and Relationship to GAAP" will be distributed at the FEI Canada Annual Conference in Halifax, June 6-8, 2007. "We are fortunate that our first Request for Proposals attracted the attention of such credible Canadian academics", says Barry Gorman Ph.D, C.A., T.E.P., Chair of the Canadian Financial Executive Research Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Professor at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. "Dr. Gibbins is among the best," says Gorman.
