Dear Members,
![]() |
The 2007 FEI Canada Conference in Halifax, June 6-8, was our most successful ever with over 500 attendees. In addition to outstanding educational content, attendees enjoyed a great day of golfing at Glen Arbour, as well as various local activities and social events. Our closing luncheon speaker, former Canadian Ambassador to the US, Frank McKenna, was by all accounts the highlight of the conference. Joining us at the closing luncheon were almost 200 local business leaders.
This year we honoured long time FEI Quebec member Robert Normand with our inaugural Frank S. Capon Distinguished Service Award. We also recognized Michael Gibbins and Bradley Pomeroy of the University of Alberta with our first CFERF research award. Continuing our tradition of celebrating excellence, we opened the conference with Canada’s CFO of the Year (2006), Karen Maidment of BMO Financial Group. For those who were unable to attend this year, conference materials and video of the keynote sessions are available.
Planning is underway for next year’s conference at the beautiful Jasper Park Lodge. Be sure to mark your calendar for June 9-11. Dates are also confirmed for May 27-29 in Montreal (2009) and June 10-12 in Victoria (2010).
For all those who attended, thank you and we hope you enjoyed the conference.
Vic Wells,
President, FEI Canada

HOT JOBS
| Job Title: CFO | City: Toronto |
Position Description
Our client is a leading retailer of both parts and equipment, primarily used in the infrastructure and resources industries. In addition, they provide comprehensive service programs, supporting the use and maintenance of these products.
While based in the GTA, they are a national presence in their field with satellite operations located in several other cities across Canada. With a well-earned reputation for stability, profitability and customer service, the time has come to recruit a first-class financial manager capable of taking the firm to "the next level" of operational excellence.
To this end, we have been retained to assist them in identifying and selecting a first-rate Chief Financial Officer
A key player on the senior management team, the Chief Financial Officer ("CFO") will be expected to play an integral role in managing the firm’s current business activities, as well as planning for the future and developing the resources and internal processes necessary to execute on those plans and ensure its goals are successfully achieved.
The successful candidate will join a management team comprised of seasoned industry professionals who, in addition to knowing their business, appreciate the value an experienced, inventive, business-oriented financial manager can add to even the best-run businesses.
This position will be best suited to experienced CFOs – preferably with experience in at least one mid-market sized company – with demonstrated strengths in timely reporting, insightful analysis, solid supplier/stakeholder relationship skills and, ideally, systems implementation experience. In addition, a solid grounding in tax matters will be an asset.
If this sounds like you, we would be pleased to hear from you. On the other hand, if this sounds more appropriate for someone you know, we would be grateful for your assistance in referring them to us.
Either way, rest assured any information submitted to us for consideration will be held in the strictest of confidence. Nothing submitted and entrusted to us will be released to anyone, even our client, without the owner’s prior knowledge and consent.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Diane E. Arnstrong
